Our marathon runner!

Temperatures soared on the 11th April for the 2nd Brighton Marathon which Balance Director, Tony Vickers, completed.

The odds were stacked against him from the outset with a recent collar bone fracture (this is another story that I’m sure Tony will share with you should you ask).

Not one to give up easily, Tony did what training he could throughout March and was at the starting line for 9am with Steve Cram pulling the trigger for the off.

No stranger to running, Tony followed the 4 hour pacemaker for the first 19 miles but like many runners that day, struggled with the 22 degree heat and well...let’s just say the good people of St John’s were more than helpful!

After a rest with legs in the ‘raised above head’ position and a much-needed sugar hit, Tony continued to walk the remaining 7 miles and crossed the finish line in 5 hours 3 minutes. Not a terrible time considering the last 7 miles were walked.

Tony said afterwards that this was by far the hardest run he has completed to date and will be looking at his next one to beat his Personal best of 4:13 and come in sub 4 hours.

Time will tell....
